Quote of the day.

This exchange occurred in overtime of last night's Georgia/Alabama game. Awful Announcing has the video of this bizarre conversation between play-by-play man Mike Patrick and color analyst Todd Blackledge. Keep in mind that this occurred in overtime, prior to Georgia scoring the game winning touchdown.

Mike Patrick: "I have an important question for you."

Todd Blackledge: "Go ahead."

Patrick: "What is Britney doing with her life?"

Blackledge: "Who?"

Patrick: "Britney!"

Blackledge: "Britney who?"

Patrick: "Spears! What is she doing with her career?"

Blackledge: "Why do we care at this point? Is she here?"

Patrick: "I don't think so."

Blackledge: "Is she a football fan?"

Patrick: "Oh, I'm sure she is."

All of this taking place on the same day NBC play-by-play man Tom Hammond mistakenly referred to Michigan State wide receiver Terry Love as Courtney Love. Perhaps college football announcers are watching too much Entertainment Tonight.

when i first saw this the other day, it blew my mind. Up until this point I had actually considered Mike Patrick one of the more respectable commentators in the game today.

I'm not saying I don't respect him anymore but it was so completely out of left field, it makes me wonder what in the hell he was thinking.
